Art 501 – The Research Poster

Vassily Kandinsky

Okay, as promised – here’s the lowdown on the research Poster.

It’s not due for a while yet, but for those who like to get a head start on things I’m posting the information now.First of all, each person in the class must do a different artist, and it’s first come first serve as far as selection goes. So if there’s a particular artist you would like to research you have to let me know that ASAP, before someone else gets to him or her first.

The requirements;

  1. Each poster should be titled simply with just the name of the artist.
  2. You can take the construction paper I provide to create your poster on, or find some other material that you prefer, but all posters are meant to be the same size. That size being:
  3. Andy Warhol

    The research should cover briefly a little bit about the artist’s life, his/her training in the arts, the material that he/she favors and what meaning or purpose the artist sees in their art. This research should all be contained in no less than xxx words.

  4. There should be at least 2-3 images in the poster. Typically these images are examples of the artists work, but it can include an image of the artist or other appropriate imagery as well.
  5. The overall look of the poster is as important as the research. Seriously, this is an art class. Graphic designers and similar such professionals use their talentr to present information in an appealing way. that is what I am asking you to do here, so how you layout and decorate the poster is worth half of the marks.

Tim Burton

Here are the criteria by which I will evaluate the project.

Information: The purpose of the project was to provide insight into the art of a famous artist. This section evaluates the information you had. Did you tell us what sort of an artist your subject was? His chosen meanings and mediums?  How about a little biographical info? The Artist’s life (20%), The Artist’s work (30%)

Visual Design: The use of a visual was important, as was the overall look of the poster. Did you use images? What about a little creativity in the display? Relevant images (20%), Overall design and layout (30%)
